Legend has it that the wines were transported to Rome to delight the Caesars

To understand the idiosyncrasy of Ribeira Sacra certificate of origin, we have to go back to the beginnings of viticulture in Spain, that is, to the Roman times (we will let the evidence speak for itself). Legends tell that our wines were carried to Rome for the Caesars’ delight.

Apart from all of that, the influx of anchorites and thanks to Christianity and its interrelation with viticulture, made the monks from different orders, who settled on the river banks and left countless remains and real jewels of Romanesque that fill the whole terrain of the Miño, Sil, Lor and Bibei rivers, among others, transmitted a winemaking culture which did not take long before showing results. It made that, more than a legend, it became into a reality that comes to our days thanks to the efforts of an “heroic” viticulture.

All of this gives us rise to assert that it would be impossible to understand the miracle ofRibeira Sacra without the daily effort of many winegrowers. The latter, thanks to their effort and their love for their land, make possible that we can have a bottle of wine close at hand, which keep many centuries of history and constant effort inside them. In this way, everyone can enjoy wines with personality in which prevail fruitiness and fresh bouquet together witha balance of flavors that make them unique on the market: wines with some virtues out of the ordinary.

Productions & Vineyards

Our winery is located in an ancient building made of stone, in Sta. Cruz de Brosmos, which belongs to the local government of Sober, in the south of Lugo province. In 1999 it was redone and updated. Thus, it was equipped with the latest technology as regards fermentation.

From that moment up to nowadays, high quality wines have been produced due to its careful, special and handmade selection of the raw material.

In 1997, the first Mencía D.O. (Certificate of origin) was produced. It was distressed in oak barrels... At present, and in years of exceptional harvest, over 15,000 bottles of this wine are sold.

In the 1950s, when no one bet on viticulture in Amandi area, leaving many deserted vineyards, Bernardino Rodríguez followed the family tradition and he kept his vineyards the same as when he inherited them from his father, andhis father from his father and so on, from generation to generation.
With a very good vision of the future, and already in the 1990s,Bernardino Rodríguez’s son, Emilio Rodríguez, took charge of the winery. So, he began to produce wines of traditional stylebut of high quality, following the wine-making work of hisfamily, his "Antergos”.

During this time, the vineyard has been upgrading and spreading out with the main variety of our area, the Mencía. Currently, there are more than 10 hectares and other 5 Ha. aremonitored by winegrowers of this area with the guidance of Emilio Rodríguez, which has allowed to produce 60,000 bottles of excellent quality annually.

The entrepreneurial spirit showed by our patriarch, Bernardino Rodríguez, who knewexactly how to transmit the love for his land, together with the secret of the production of its wines, has made our vineyard turn into a family business with future prospects.
